“Two heads are better than one” says the proverb. Collaboration between parties, particularly from those in dtfferent reseach fields,has never been so important than today.

In the 21st century, a significant amount of work is required to support research progress. The continuous creation of new technologies and new innovations makes it necessary for researchers to stay up-to-speed and work fast. Similar trend exists in the industry. As the market constantly evolves and the competition in the maket becomes fiercer,a firms must rely on innovations to get ahead of the competitors or even to stay relevant in the market.

Collaborations on innovations that are multidisciplinary between academia and industry can lead to the gathering of specific knowledge to work around specific challengesfor better solutions.

Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University (Chula Engineering) has developed this directory to facilitate the collaboration creation process. Spacifically, researchers from other institutes can use this directory to identify potential researchers at the Chula Engineering who have specific industrial knowledge in the field that they are looking for in order to initiate contact and ultimately form the collaboration team.

The research at Chula Engineering is organized into 8 clusters, namely, (I) Energy, (II) Green Engineering, (III) Disaster and Safety, (IV) Infrastructure and Transportation, (V) Automation and Testing, (VI) Smart Materials, (VII) Health, and (VIII) Information Technology.

This directory is available also in digital format, downloadable via the faculty’s website (www.eng.chula. ac.th), which allows detailed search and filters using specific clusters, keywords, researcher names, or departments.

ENERGY
The world is facing a big challenge: it is expected that petroleum and natural gas in the world will be depleted and human needs to find new energy or improve the energy management. Renewable resources, including sunlight, wind, geothermal heat, nuclear and biomass, are the interesting candidates because they are from free energy sources. Utilizing these energy to their fullest is necessary to achieve the sustainable energy. For such purposes, researchers of Chula Engineering have accepted this challenge and not only invented the potential instrument to convert these renewable energy into the electricity, but also conducted the Building Energy Management System (BEMS) based on Smart Grid that can reduce the electricity consumption in the office buildings and industries.

GREEN ENGINEERING
The fast development of technology leads to the better quality of life. Every coin has two sides, discoveries show everyday that the technologies used in our daily lives as well as our ways of living have a major impact on the global environment and human health. Concerning about this problem, Chula Engineering has proposed the concept of Green Engineering to minimize the pollution emission by searching more environmentally-friendly biomaterials, designing the industrial framework based on the Economic and Ecological design (Eco design), and utilizing the advanced waste treatment and management.

DISASTER AND SAFETY
Uncontrollable hazardous disasters (natural or human-made) happen constantly all over the world and there is an increasing need for turning the citizen’s lives safer by investing in technologies that prevent from or reduce risks to such disasters. The researchers from Chula Engineering provide the solutions for the safety of the human being as well as for the risk reduction, for example, the sensitive portable explosive/radiation detection devices have been invented to support the airport and transportation security applications. We have not only developed the high performance fire protection systems, structural damage assessment, and earthquake engineering for better building safety standards in Thailand, but also adapted the ergonomics for improving the quality of work life of the employee in the industries.

INFRASTRUCTURE AND TRANSPORTATION
The industries in the construction, mass transportation and infrastructure areas are undergoing dramatic changes and facing multiple challenges due to the rapid urbanization and globalized marketplace. Intelligent infrastructures based on customer-centric solutions that reply to the consumers’ needs due to their modern lives are more and more the paths to follow. Therefore, Chula Engineers have developed for years skills in the GIS web mapping, Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV), logistics management, and infrastructure asset management system.

AUTOMATION AND TESTING
Due to the competitive global market, optimization of resources and costs are part of the companies’ objectives. Automation is a valuable tool for reducing human intervention, saving energy and materials and improving quality, accuracy and precision of industrial processes. The researchers of Chula Engineering have accumulated knowledge, experience and skill in order to advance the machine control technology, mechatronics, and testing instruments. Our proud innovations include 3D scanners, medical bio robotics, vehicle dynamic and control systems, and earthquake simulation testing systems.

SMART MATERIALS
The advanced technologies established to respond the bottomless human desires and rapid growth of industries cannot be solely achieved without collaborative researches of smart materials. Unlike the ordinary materials we can see anywhere, the smart materials Chula Engineering have developed have the outstanding properties and unique functions to answer the requirements mainly from the industries such as the active bioplastics that extend the shelf-life of post-harvested fresh produces and dried fruits, and the titanium alloys for the custom surgical implants that can be fabricated within a single day using an investment casting technique. Furthermore, Chula Engineering also would like to present other interesting smart materials including semiconductors, catalysts, sensors, membranes, fuel cells and so forth.

HEALTH
“Living a happy and healthy life” is an ideal for everyone. Unfortunately, the increments of unpredictable accidents, cancers and other infectious diseases harm the human beings. It is therefore important to invest in developing new treatments, therapies and instruments that support the wellbeing of patients. Researchers from Chula Engineering have a large history of research in developing technologies in the medical area such as the biomaterials for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications, and artificial biomechanical prosthetic human legs. Not only for the human, Chula Engineering has also concerned the health of your beloved pets. The rollator for dogs with disabilities both back legs has been built considering your pets’ anatomy and mechanics to efficiently support the movement during sitting, walking and crawling without damaging the inflamed wound.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Due to the wide use of computers, smartphones, tablets connected to the internet, Bluetooth technologies or Wi-Fi, the information technologies have become an important part of our everyday lives. Many companies now need IT departments for managing the data, networks, and other technical areas of their businesses. Chula Engineering’s researchers are actively committed to the creation and development of exceptional programmes that can improve our quality of life and facilitate the daily activities such as data processing, game technologies, online education systems, AI systems, networking, softwares, computer simulation, and computer graphics.
