Chula Engineering Welcomes Delegation from Toyota Technological Institute, Japan

On August 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nopdanai Ajavakom, Associate Dean for Administration, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, warmly welcomed representatives from the Toyota Technological Institute (TTI), Japan.

The TTI delegation was headed by:
1. Mr. Satoru Nakagawa, Managing Director, Toyota School Foundation
2. Dr. Itaru Kamiya, Professor, TTI International Affairs Committee delegate
.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss the possibility of organizing a customized Summer School program at Chula Engineering. The Faculty expressed its willingness and enthusiasm to arrange a tailored Summer School program for TTI students in the future.
.
As part of the visit, the delegation also toured the Department of Mechanical Engineering, guided by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuksit Noomwongs, where they had the opportunity to learn about the department’s cutting-edge research. The highlight of the tour was the demonstration of a Level 3 Autonomous Shuttle, a self-driving vehicle developed by the department’s research team.

This visit marks another step in strengthening academic collaboration and fostering future opportunities between Chula Engineering and Toyota Technological Institute, Japan.

Chula Engineering professor is invited to give a talk about the Myanmar Earthquake at AOGS 2025 Special Session, Singapore

On July 31, 2025, the special session “Late Breaking Session: M7.7 Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar) Earthquake” was organized during the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., Head of the Center of Excellence in Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems, and Associate Professor of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, has been invited to give a talk on “Assessing Thailand’s Resilience: Public Perception, Warning Systems, and Preliminary Impacts of the 2025 Myanmar Earthquake.” His presentation explored the social response, interplay of risk communication, and emergency management in the wake of this event.

The AOGS 2025 special session brought together leading experts to assess the immediate implications of the Mandalay earthquake and foster collaboration across the region.

Congratulations to the students from the Chulalongkorn University High Altitude Research Club (CUHAR) for winning 3rd Place in the 30K COTS category at the International Rocket Engineering Competition 2025 (IREC 2025)

Congratulations to the students from the Chulalongkorn University High Altitude Research Club (CUHAR) for winning 3rd Place in the 30K COTS category at the International Rocket Engineering Competition 2025 (IREC 2025), held in Midland, Texas, USA, from June 9–14, 2025.

In the 30K COTS category of the competition, the University of Canterbury team won the first prize, and the University of Melbourne team the second among qualified 144 world-class aerospace engineering institutes including the University of California at Berkeley, Purdue University, University of Texas at Austin, and Seoul National University.
.
The competition grand challenges reflects students’ aerospace engineering skills to design and develop a high-performance rocket capable of operating effectively in unpredictable atmospheric conditions. Moreover, the rocket featured a precise and reliable tracking system capable of accurately identifying its location. This achievement marks another milestone in the pursuit of high-quality education and advancement in aerospace technology.

Chula Engineering students won the Best Presentation Awards from the International Senior Project Conference 2025 (ISPC 2025)

On June 5, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), hosted the International Senior Project Conference 2025 (ISPC 2025) in Bangkok, Thailand.

Two teams of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, won the Best Presentation Awards. The first team, including Mr. Isoon Chanchongkham, Mr. Prarunchai Ruttanaprasert, and Mr. Teerawat Riensuwon (Undergraduate students in the Industrial Engineering Program), presented their engineering project, “Finding the Building Fire Evacuation Strategy Improvement through Agent-based Simulation.” Their research is supervised by Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng. (Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University), and Dr. Jing Tang (Lecturer at the International School of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University). They explored the use of simulation modeling to optimize fire evacuation strategies and enhance emergency preparedness.

And the second team, including Mr. Napat Leewiboolsip, Mr. Phasinth Srinutapong, Mr. Pitipat Fongsarun (Undergraduate Students in Information and Communication Engineering Program), Mr. Alfan Kurnia Yudha (Ph.D. Student in Industrial Engineering Program), Dr. Kumpol Saengtabtim (Postdoctoral researcher), presented their engineering project “ESG-driven Portfolio for Long-term Investment with Machine Learning.” Their research is supervised by Dr. Jing Tang (Lecturer at the International School of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University) and Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng. (Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University). They developed an algorithmic design for ESG stocks, focusing on long-term investment, utilizing a machine learning approach.

With their compelling presentation, both teams earned the Best Presentation Awards at ISPC 2025.

Chulalongkorn University Strengthens Ties with MIT: Exploring Collaborative Opportunities in Engineering, Management, and Innovation

On June 5th, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, led a high-level delegation on an official visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The group was warmly welcomed by Prof. Sally Kornbluth, President of MIT, and Prof. Duane S. Boning, Vice Provost for International Activities.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the leadership of both institutions to explore potential academic and research collaborations. On this occasion, President Wilert Puriwat also presented a token of appreciation to Prof. Kornbluth in recognition of MIT’s warm hospitality.
.
Among the Chulalongkorn delegation were Assoc. Prof. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and executives from the Faculty, who joined the visit to engage in discussions specifically related to engineering and interdisciplinary cooperation.
.
During the visit, the delegation also met with representatives from the MIT Sloan School of Management, led by Prof. Georgia Perakis, Interim John C Head III Dean. After fruitful discussions, the group toured the Sloan School’s facilities.
.
The delegation then proceeded to the MIT School of Engineering for a meeting with Prof. Maria Yang, Deputy Dean of the School, followed by a tour of the school’s laboratories, showcasing innovations in engineering and technology.
.
To conclude the visit, the Chulalongkorn team had a meaningful exchange with members of the MIT Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) alumni community and former Chulalongkorn University students currently pursuing their studies at MIT, reaffirming the strong academic linkages between the two institutions.

Prof. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, participated as the representative speaker from Chulalongkorn University at the ACNET-EngTech General Assembly 2024, held at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus.

The assembly was hosted by the ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchange among Engineering and Technology Universities (ACNET-EngTech) with the aim of strengthening academic collaboration, joint research, and human resource development in the fields of engineering and technology among universities in ASEAN and China.
