Chula Engineering and Aoyama Gakuin University Celebrate 10 Years of MALI Program 2026 (Chula-AGU Program)

BANGKOK – The Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, through its International Affairs Office, recently hosted a short-term exchange program for students from Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU), Japan, held from March 8–21, 2026. This year marks a significant milestone as it celebrates the 10th anniversary of the MALI Program (Multicultural Awareness through Language Immersion) formerly known as the Chula-AGU Program which serves to strengthen academic and cultural ties between the two prestigious institutions.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of Chula Engineering. In his opening remarks, the Dean emphasized the profound symbolism of the decade-long partnership:

“When we think of the number ten, we think of our ten fingers. If hands remain empty, they may hold little meaning; but when two hands join in a firm handshake, it represents the friendship and collaboration that have sustained this project and our relationship for so long.”

Throughout the two-week program, students from both universities engaged in a diverse array of activities, including engineering lectures at Chulalongkorn University, Thai language classes, and specialized workshops on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A key highlight featured students presenting innovative solutions to campus-related issues aligned with the SDG framework, fostering critical thinking and sustainable development mindsets.

Beyond the classroom, the program offered immersive experiential learning. Students traveled to Chonburi for team-building exercises at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, participated in a Thai Cooking Class, and explored Thailand’s rich heritage during a one-day trip to Museum Siam and Wat Phra Chetuphon (Wat Pho). The program concluded with a Cultural Exchange Presentation, where Thai and Japanese students shared their unique traditions and personal insights gained during the exchange.

At the closing ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean and Program Advisor, presented certificates to all participants, honoring their academic achievements and their role in fostering international cooperation.

The MALI Program stands as more than just an exchange; it is a vital cultural bridge that provides students with deep academic and intercultural experiences. Chula Engineering looks forward to continuing this fruitful partnership with Aoyama Gakuin University for years to come.
