Chulalongkorn University Hosts CU × NVAITC Symposium 2026, Celebrating Eight Years of AI Collaboration with MoU Signing and the Launch of Chula AI Center

Chulalongkorn University, led by the Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration with the Chula AI Center, Sasin School of Management, and the NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC), is hosting the CU × NVAITC Symposium 2026 on 16–17 July 2026 at the Sasin School of Management, Chulalongkorn University. The symposium serves as a platform for academia, government, and industry to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaborations in artificial intelligence (AI).

The two-day symposium welcomes more than 300 participants, including researchers, industry leaders, government representatives, and distinguished speakers from across Asia, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, China, and Indonesia, reinforcing Thailand’s growing role as a regional hub for AI collaboration and innovation.

The opening ceremony of the CU × NVAITC Symposium 2026 was held on July 16, 2026. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Wilert Puriwat, Ph.D., President of Chulalongkorn University, who emphasized the importance of collaboration among academia, government, and industry in advancing AI research and innovation for sustainable national development. Associate Professor Manoj Lohatepanont, Sc.D., Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, delivered remarks on the background and significance of the event.

A major highlight of the symposium was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between Chulalongkorn University and the NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC). The agreement was signed by Professor Wilert Puriwat, Ph.D., President of Chulalongkorn University, and Dr. Simon See, Global Head, NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC), NVIDIA, marking a significant milestone in expanding collaboration in AI research, talent development, high-performance computing, and technology translation. Assoc. Prof.Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, discussed the background and objectives of the collaboration.

The event also celebrated the official launch of the Chula AI Center, a university-wide initiative dedicated to integrating AI expertise across disciplines, accelerating interdisciplinary research, and translating cutting-edge AI innovations into real-world applications for healthcare, industry, government, and society.

The partnership between Chulalongkorn University and NVAITC began in 2018 and has continued to grow over the past eight years, encompassing collaborative research, AI talent development, high-performance computing infrastructure, and industry engagement. This year’s symposium marks the second CU × NVAITC Symposium hosted in Thailand, following the successful inaugural event hosted by Chulalongkorn University in 2024.

Throughout the two-day symposium, participants will attend keynote speeches, technical presentations, panel discussions, and research poster sessions covering a wide range of topics, including Generative AI, Agentic AI, AI Infrastructure, Robotics, Digital Twins, and AI applications in healthcare, government, and industry. The symposium also features an NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI) Workshop titled “Building Agentic AI Systems with NVIDIA NeMoClaw,” providing participants with hands-on experience in developing next-generation agentic AI applications using NVIDIA technologies.

The CU × NVAITC Symposium 2026 reflects the shared commitment of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, the Chula AI Center, the Sasin School of Management, and the NVIDIA AI Technology Center (NVAITC) to advancing AI research, cultivating world-class AI talent, and strengthening international collaboration to drive AI innovation for sustainable economic and societal impact.

Chula Engineering Elevates Strategic Higher Education Networks and Global Partnerships in Taiwan

TAIPEI, July 3, 2026 – Continuing its comprehensive official mission in Taiwan, the high-level executive delegation from the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University (Chula Engineering), arrived in Taipei today via the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR). Led by Dean Assoc. Prof. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs; and Mr. Phuwadech Doungmanee, Head of the Office of International Affairs the delegation engaged with prominent national universities and international educational alliances to expand scientific cooperation and global student talent cultivation.

The delegation, escorted by representatives from the University Alliance in Taiwan for International Educational Development (UAiTED), achieved several historic milestones in Taipei today:

• Collaborative Dialogue with National Taiwan University (NTU): Strategic academic discussions took place at NTU’s College of Engineering. Hosted by Prof. Louis Ge, Associate Dean, and Prof. Chung-Hsien Kuo, Associate Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the meeting successfully paved the way for future dual-institutional engineering projects, mutual academic exchanges, and an increased quota for exchange students to match growing student demand.

• First visit at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech / NTUST): Marking a monumental milestone, Chula Engineering entered into a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taiwan Tech. Presided over by Dr. Ming-Jyh Chern, Dean of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Ying-Jung Yeh, Vice President for International Affairs, the ceremony seals a structural framework for scientific cooperation and student exchange. The delegation also experienced Taiwan Tech’s digital innovations during a state-of-the-art Virtual Reality experiencing session.

• Global Talent Development with Sayling Wen Cultural & Educational Foundation: A dedicated visit to the Foundation highlighted potential avenues for boosting global competencies among engineering students and driving innovations aligned with sustainable development goals.

• Official Multilateral Dinner Reception: To celebrate the successful execution of the bilateral mission, UAiTED hosted an official reception dinner at the Grand Mayfull Hotel Taipei. The event was attended by prominent higher education leaders, including Executive Director Jeter Her (UAiTED); Vice Dean Li-Hsien Yeh (College of Engineering, NTUST); Associate Vice President Chun-Hao Lee (International Affairs, NTU); Vice President Chen-Ying Chi (National Central University); and Executive Director Tzu-Bin Lin (Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan – FICHET), to solidify the future blueprint of Thailand-Taiwan higher education synergy.

The visit, organized under the prestigious invitations of NCKU, the University Alliance in Taiwan for International Educational Development (UAiTED), and the Taiwan-Thailand Science and Technology Cooperation Center (TTSTC), aims to bridge Thailand’s premier engineering institution with Taiwan’s world-leading technology ecosystem.

Key highlights from today’s itinerary at NCKU include:

– Biomedical Innovation & Medical Device Cooperation: The delegation visited the Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC) and was warmly received by Chair Professor Fong-Chin Su, Director of MDIC, alongside a technical tour of the Biomedical Ultrasound System Lab led by Prof. Shyh-Hau Wang, Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering. Students from EBA Project Network Universities Participate in EBA-KRI Thailand Fieldwork 2026 at Chulalongkorn University and Kanchanaburi Province

From 11–17 June 2026, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, through its Office of International Affairs, organized the EBA-KRI Thailand Fieldwork 2026 under the theme “Blueprint for Resilience: Designing with Nature and People.” The program welcomed students from 11 universities across 8 countries participating in the Evidence-Based Approach (EBA) Project, providing an international platform for collaborative learning on disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development through field-based education and evidence-based research.

The Evidence-Based Approach (EBA) Project is an international academic initiative that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration among leading universities in Asia. The project aims to cultivate future leaders capable of addressing complex environmental and societal challenges by applying evidence-based thinking, scientific knowledge, and community-centered approaches to develop practical and sustainable solutions.

The opening ceremony was held on 12 June 2026, where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, officially welcomed the participants. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of experiential learning and highlighted Kanchanaburi Province as an ideal living laboratory where students could examine the interconnectedness of natural resources, ecosystems, disaster resilience, and sustainable community development.

Between 14 and 16 June 2026, participants conducted an intensive field study in Kanchanaburi Province. On 14 June 2026, students attended a lecture on Disaster Management delivered by Aj. Kodchakorn Krutphong from the Department of Environmental Engineering and Disaster Management, Mahidol University Kanchanaburi Campus. The session introduced key concepts in disaster risk management, community preparedness, and resilience. Participants also visited the Geoscience Museum, where Dr. Apivut Veeravinantanakul provided insights into geological processes and natural hazards.

On 15 June 2026, participants explored Erawan National Park, where they learned about biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management, and natural hazard preparedness from Mr. Kitti Sakkathat, Head of the Interpretation Division. The students then conducted field observations and environmental data collection along the park’s natural trails, gaining firsthand experience in assessing ecological conditions and environmental challenges.

On 16 June 2026, the delegation visited the Srinagarindra Hydropower Dam, where they were welcomed by Mr. Saritchai Pongsaisophon, Director of Srinagarindra Dam. Participants attended a lecture by Mr. Kengphong Kraikijrat, who discussed renewable energy, water resource management, and the role of hydropower infrastructure in supporting sustainable development and climate resilience.

Following the fieldwork, students collaborated in multidisciplinary teams to analyze the collected data and develop evidence-based proposals addressing environmental issues observed during the study. Their work demonstrated how effective environmental solutions require the integration of engineering, science, policy, and community engagement to strengthen resilience against climate change and future disasters.

On 17 June 2026, each team presented its preliminary project, showcasing innovative ideas and practical recommendations derived from their field observations. The presentations reflected participants’ shared commitment to developing sustainable, evidence-based solutions to real-world environmental challenges and marked the successful conclusion of the Thailand Fieldwork program.

Beyond academic exchange, the EBA-KRI Thailand Fieldwork 2026 strengthened international collaboration while fostering greater awareness of environmental conservation, disaster resilience, and climate change adaptation. By encouraging students to engage directly with communities and natural environments, the program reinforced the importance of evidence-based decision-making in achieving sustainable development goals.

Chulalongkorn University and Huawei Thailand Deepen Strategic Collaboration to Advance 5G-Advanced, Cloud and AI Innovation and Cultivate Future ICT Talent

In 2025, Huawei and Chulalongkorn University achieved another significant milestone by successfully conducting one of the Asia-Pacific region’s first 5G-Advanced technology trials using the U6GHz spectrum band, achieving download speeds exceeding 10 Gbps. The achievement demonstrated the potential of next-generation mobile communications to support emerging AI-driven applications, immersive digital experiences, and industrial digitalization.

Dr. Aung Pyae, a lecturer in the Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) Program at the International School of Engineering (ISE), Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, received the Best Session Paper Award at the 13th International Conference on Technical Education (ICTE 2026) for his research titled “Verification Without Distrust: Reframing User-Side Oversight as Routine Epistemic Governance in Everyday Human-Chatbot Interaction.”
