Chula Engineering and Aoyama Gakuin University Host the 5th Annual Short-Term Exchange Program, Now Renamed as MALI Program
The Office of International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, successfully hosted a short-term exchange program for students from Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU), Japan, from March 9 to 22, 2025. This marks the fifth consecutive year of collaboration between Chula Engineering and Aoyama Gakuin University, strengthening academic and cultural ties between the two institutions. . This year, the program has been officially renamed MALI Program (Multicultural Awareness through Language Immersion). The word “MALI” can also be read in Thai as “Jasmine,” a flower symbolizing pure love and Mother’s Day in Thailand. Additionally, in Japan, Mother’s Day was established in the same year as the founding of Aoyama Gakuin University. This reflects the program’s goal of fostering cross-cultural learning and deep language immersion. . The opening ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Surat Kwanmuang, Associate Dean, who emphasized the program’s broader objectives: “This program is not only about academic learning but also about building friendships, expanding networks, and fostering a community of mutual exchange and understanding. I encourage all students to make the most of these two weeks—immerse yourselves in the activities, engage with one another, and create memories that will last a lifetime.” . Thai white paper books are given to the Disaster Prevention Library in Japan
On December 20, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., Assistant Dean for International Affairs, Head of the Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Unit, and Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering at Chulalongkorn University, visited the Disaster Prevention Library in Tokyo, Japan. He presented two copies of his Thai book, “Insight knowledges about Japan Tsunami evacuation warning system (in Thai language),” to Ms. HOTTA Yayoi, Librarian and Curator of the Disaster Prevention Library. . The book, authored by Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng. (Chulalongkorn University), Jing Tang, D.Eng. (Chulalongkorn University), Wanit Treeranurat (Chulalongkorn University), Ampan Laosunthara (Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan), Korakoch Mongkornsuk (Chulalongkorn University), and Asst. Prof. Panon Latcharote, D.Eng. (Mahidol University), was published in 2024. It is available online at https://www.eng.chula.ac.th/th/45387 . The Disaster Prevention Library, operated by the National Municipality Property Disaster Mutual Aid Association, is a specialized library dedicated to disaster prevention. It houses a vast collection of disaster-related books mainly from Japan and also some from other countries.

Industrial Engineering student wins Moonshot Award at Intelligent Service : A Social Perspective Workshop in Japan
During December 19-20, 2024, Mr. Alfan Kurnia Yudha, a doctoral student supervised by Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, participated in the “Intelligent Service : A Social Perspective Workshop” organized by the Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology) Academy for Convergence of Materials and Informatics (TAC-MI) in Oiso, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. . The workshop’s theme was “Future Material and Future Society : Materials to Live in Extreme Environments”. Mr. Alfan’s group won the Moonshot Award with their innovative proposal to address overpopulation and rising sea levels by constructing “Dome Cities” under the sea. The dome cities will be constructed with future materials where it is made from Alloy/Light-weight polymers that has 3 layers, each with their own unique functions from protection layer, energy generation layer, and temperature layer. Furthermore, they also proposed the dome is equipped with optical fiber cable that has the capabilities to gather and transport the sunlight from surface to under the sea since the dome is built 500-1000 m blow the sea levels where there is no sunlight. . Chula Engineering professors and students won the JDR Award for the Most Cited Paper 2024 . On December 20, 2024, the Editorial Office of the Journal of Disaster Research (JDR) hosted the JDR Award Ceremony at the Gakushi Kaikan in Tokyo, Japan. During the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., Assistant Dean for International Affairs and Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, was honored with the JDR Award for the Most Cited Paper of 2024. The award recognized his team’s published article, “Twitter Sentiment Analysis on Bangkok Tourism During the COVID-19 Situation Using Support Vector Machine Algorithm.” . This article, published in 2021, is a work by Thanapat Sontayasara, Sirawit Jariyapongpaiboon, Arnon Promjun, Napat Seelpipat, Dr. Kumpol Saengtabtim (Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University), Dr. Jing Tang (Lecturer of the International School of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University), and Assoc. Signing of Memorandum of Agreement Knowledge Cooperation and Joint Improvement of Knowledge in Sustainable Areas between Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University and KPMG Phumchai Business Advisory Ltd.
The signing ceremony of this Memorandum of Agreement was held at the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University on December 24, 2024. It was signed between the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University and KPMG Phoomchai Business Advisory Ltd. to demonstrate their commitment to collaborate in the exchange of knowledge and to promote the development of sustainable knowledge suitable for Thai society. This collaboration aims to drive businesses of all levels towards sustainability, thereby supporting Thailand’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. The cooperation covers aspects of environmental (Environment), social (Social), and governance (Governance) development. The objectives of this collaboration are to jointly manage appropriate sustainable knowledge for the Thai business and society, enhance capabilities, integrate cooperation to develop the readiness of personnel, and promote collaboration in raising awareness of sustainable development among businesses and society. This includes supporting government policies on sustainability. . Under this collaboration, both parties have outlined joint operational guidelines to support knowledge exchange activities on sustainability. Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University and AIFUL CORPORATION
On Friday, December 6, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, and AIFUL CORPORATION signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) under the Bachelor of Engineering program in Computer Engineering and Digital Technology. This partnership aims to develop a systematic connection between industry and the development of human resources in the fields of computer engineering and digital technology. COWAY (Thailand) Co.Ltd., is the first water purifier in Korea. It provides trustful quality of drinking water. COWAY (Thailand) Co.Ltd., is proud to introduce a new drinking water culture to Thai consumers in order to constantly supply clean water along with other health products. Thus, water quality testing is very imperative to ensure the best quality to customers.
