Chula Engineering Delegation Attends Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE) 2025 Conference at Tsinghua University, Beijing . . From 13–15 October 2025, the executives from the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, participated in the Asia-Oceania Top University League on Engineering (AOTULE) 2025 Conference held at the School of Aerospace Engineering, Tsinghua University in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. . The Chula Engineering delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sawekchai Tangaramvong, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaodit Aswakul, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Angsumalin Senjuntichai, Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, and the administrative team. . The AOTULE 2025 Conference featured a series of key activities, including the Dean’s Meeting, during which university leaders presented institutional highlights and delivered Conference Theme Presentations under the theme “Interdisciplinary Education and Practice for Sustainability.” . This was followed by the Staff Meeting, focusing on international collaboration through student exchange programs and summer schools across member universities. . Chula Engineering Faculty Members Join Panel at IEEE R10 HTC 2025 in Japan
Two distinguished faculty members from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., and Dr. Aung Pyae, have been invited to serve as panelists at the Special Session of the IEEE Region 10 Humanitarian Technology Conference (HTC) 2025, at Chiba University of Commerce, Japan. . The special session, titled “Recent Disasters: Lessons, Response, and the Role of Technology,” took place on September 30th, 2025, from 15:15 to 17:45 JST, and was facilitated by Prof. Takako Hashimoto, IEEE R10 Director. Joining the discussion alongside Prof. Leelawat and Dr. Pyae is Prof. Manabu Ichikawa, a leading expert in disaster informatics from Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan. . This high-impact session explored how recent disasters have shaped global response strategies, the evolving role of technology in humanitarian efforts, and the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. The inclusion of Chula Engineering scholars reflects the university’s growing leadership in disaster resilience, risk communication, and sustainable development across Asia and beyond. . Assoc. Team Geneway from Chula Engineering Wins Honorable Mention at Hackathon for Growth: AI Together
The Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, congratulates Team Geneway, led by faculty members and staff, for passing into the final round and receiving an Honorable Mention at the Hackathon for Growth: AI Together—a university-wide initiative under the “University of AI” program. . Organized by Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and the Chulalongkorn University AI Center, the hackathon was held from June 12 to August 19, 2025. The program aimed to foster AI-driven growth and learning across the university. Participants applied their knowledge to develop chatbots and design workflows that effectively address institutional and user needs. . Team Geneway’s project, developed under the “MyChulaGENIE” track, featured a specialized chatbot designed to support Chinese language communication in engineering contexts. The solution leverages AI to connect relevant data and promote self-directed learning among staff seeking to enhance their Chinese proficiency for professional use within the faculty. . Chulalongkorn University partners with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) to advance hydrothermal-based biorefinery for coastal ecosystem towards BCG and carbon neutrality.
On September 11, 2025, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, hosted the signing ceremony of the Minutes of Meetings (M/M) between Chulalongkorn University and JICA under the SATREPS program. . The Minutes of Meetings were signed by Prof. Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, and Mr. Tomoyuki Uda, Representative of JICA with Prof. Dr. Chalermchon Sathirapoj, Associate Dean; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean; and the faculty members of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, as witnesses, at Meeting Room 1106, 100-Year Engineering Building, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. . This five-year project is led by Prof. Dr. Artiwan Shotipruk from Bio-Circular-Green economy Technology & Engineering Center (BCGeTEC), Department of Chemical Engineering, Chulalongkorn University (Project Director) and Prof. Dr. Tetsuya Kida from Kumamoto University (Research Leader). . Chula Engineering Welcomes Delegation from Toyota Technological Institute, Japan
On August 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM, the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nopdanai Ajavakom, Associate Dean for Administration, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, warmly welcomed representatives from the Toyota Technological Institute (TTI), Japan. . The TTI delegation was headed by: 1. Mr. Satoru Nakagawa, Managing Director, Toyota School Foundation 2. Dr. Itaru Kamiya, Professor, TTI International Affairs Committee delegate . The purpose of the visit was to discuss the possibility of organizing a customized Summer School program at Chula Engineering. The Faculty expressed its willingness and enthusiasm to arrange a tailored Summer School program for TTI students in the future. . As part of the visit, the delegation also toured the Department of Mechanical Engineering, guided by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuksit Noomwongs, where they had the opportunity to learn about the department’s cutting-edge research. The highlight of the tour was the demonstration of a Level 3 Autonomous Shuttle, a self-driving vehicle developed by the department’s research team. . On July 31, 2025, the special session “Late Breaking Session: M7.7 Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar) Earthquake” was organized during the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), held at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. . Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., Head of the Center of Excellence in Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems, and Associate Professor of the Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, has been invited to give a talk on “Assessing Thailand’s Resilience: Public Perception, Warning Systems, and Preliminary Impacts of the 2025 Myanmar Earthquake.” His presentation explored the social response, interplay of risk communication, and emergency management in the wake of this event. . Congratulations to the students from the Chulalongkorn University High Altitude Research Club (CUHAR) for winning 3rd Place in the 30K COTS category at the International Rocket Engineering Competition 2025 (IREC 2025), held in Midland, Texas, USA, from June 9–14, 2025. . In the 30K COTS category of the competition, the University of Canterbury team won the first prize, and the University of Melbourne team the second among qualified 144 world-class aerospace engineering institutes including the University of California at Berkeley, Purdue University, University of Texas at Austin, and Seoul National University. . The competition grand challenges reflects students’ aerospace engineering skills to design and develop a high-performance rocket capable of operating effectively in unpredictable atmospheric conditions. Moreover, the rocket featured a precise and reliable tracking system capable of accurately identifying its location. This achievement marks another milestone in the pursuit of high-quality education and advancement in aerospace technology. .
