Chula Engineering faculty members and students received Best Paper Awards from ICA-SYMP 2021
On January 21, 2021, a research article “Government COVID-19 Responses and Subsequent Influences on NO2 Variation in Ayutthaya, Thailand” by Assistant Professor Akira Kodaka, Ph.D. (Keio Univesity, Japan), Assistant Professor Natt Leelawat, D.Eng. (Department of Industrial Engineering, Chula Engineering), Jing Tang, D.Eng. (International School of Engineering, Chula Engineering), Mr. Yasushi Onda (Keio University), and Professor Naohiko Kohtake, Ph.D. (Keio University); and a research article “Convex Optimization Approach to Multi-Objective Design of Two-Stage Compensators for Linear Systems” by Mr. Tanathorn Supithak (Undergraduate student of Department of Electrical Engineering, Chula Engineering), Ms. Nicha Wongyimyong (Alumnus of Department of Electrical Engineering, Chula Engineering), Professor Kou Yamada, Ph.D. (Gunma University, Japan), and Professor David Banjerdpongchai, Ph.D. (Department of Electrical Engineering, Chula Engineering) were selected to receive the Best Paper Awards from the 2nd International Symposium on Instrumentation, Control, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics (ICA-SYMP 2021) organized by the Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association, and technically co-sponsored by IEEE Thailand Section, Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT), and Thai Robotics Society (TRS) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Bangkok during January 20-21, 2021

Chula Engineering organized a study visit “Smokeless Incinerator and Composting Facility” at Tweechol Botanic Garden, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province.
On December 19, 2020, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, led by Professor Supot Techavorasinskul, D.Eng., Dean of Engineering, along with the executive members and personnel of the Faculty of Engineering received lectures and participated in a site visit under the topic “Smokeless Incinerator and Composting Facility” by Ms. Nantanit Sesavej (Deputy Managing Director) at Tweechol Botanic Garden, Doi Saket , Chiang Mai Province.

Chula Engineering gave air quality sensors under the Sensor for All Project to Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center and Huai Hong Khrai – Khun Mae Kuang Forest Fire Control Station.
On December 18, 2020, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, led by Dr. Nattawin Chawaloesphonsiya, Director of Industrial Laison Program, together with the executive members and personnel of the Faculty of Engineering, have delivered 2 air quality sensors developed under the Sensor for All Projectand installed in the area of Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center And Huai Hong Khrai – Khun Mae Kuang Fire Control Station, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province. #ChulaEngineering #InnovationTowardSustainability #SensorForAll

Chula Engineering conducted a community development activity “Firebreak Construction” at Huay Ka forest area, Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center, Mae Pong, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province.
On December 18, 2020, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University led by ProfessorSupot Techavorasinskul, D.Eng., Dean of Engineering, along with the executive members and personnel of the Faculty of Engineering have carried out an on-site community development activitiy “Firebreak Construction” at Huay Ka forest area, Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center, Mae Pong, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province. Prior to the start of the activity, there was a lecture on the problem of forest fire prevention and suppression by Mr. Anusorn Towan, senior lecturer of Huai Hong Khrai-Khun Mae Kuang Forest Fire Control Station and there was a welcome speech by Mr. Anon Kulnil, head of Huai Hong Khrai – Khun Mae Kuang Forest Fire Control Station, Conservation Management Bureau No.16 (Chiang Mai). After the lecture session, Faculty’s executive members and personnel constructed a firebreak to slow or stop the progress of a wildfire in the future, together with the staff of the forest fire control station who provide advice throughout the activities. #ChulaEngineering #InnovationTowardSustainability

Chula Engineering launched the Chula Engineering Journey Project | Learn Do Share in 2021 and arranged a study tour “Guidelines for the Operations of Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center” at the Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province.
On December 18, 2020 at Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai Province – Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with the Huai Hong Krai Royal Development Study Center had an opening ceremony of the Chula Engineering Journey Project | Learn Do Share for the fiscal year 2021. Professor Supot Techavorasinskul, D.Eng., Dean of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University presided over the inauguration of the project and Mr. Jirachat Suetrakul, Sheriff of Doi Saket District, attended the event. After that, the executive members and personnel of the Faculty of Engineering received lectures and participated in a site visit under the topic “Three Afforestation, Four Benefits” presented by Mr. Rapeepon Tubtimthong, senior lecturer at the Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center in order to explore how local people use and conserve abundant forest resources. In addition, the Faculty members also attended a workshop under the topic “Local Herbs and Vegetables Processing (Chiang Da vegetable)” presented by Ms. Ubonwan Sunanthasilp, lecturer at Huai Hong Khrai Royal Development Study Center. #ChulaEngineering #InnovationTowardSustainability

Clothing, apparel, and supplies donation from Chula Engineering to the needy
On December 15, 2020, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University led by Professor Supot Techavorasinskul, D.Eng., Dean of Engineering, along with the executive members and personnel of the Faculty of Engineering have delivered donations such as clothing, winter wear, school supplies, medicines and medical supplies, etc. to assist those in need in the rural areas. In this regard, Faculty of Engineering cooperated with the other 2 local donation projects which are the Sharing Kindness to the Mountains project and the donation project to help the children of the mountains to be the medium of forwarding these items to the communities living in rural areas on the mountains in Chiang Mai. #ChulaEngineering #InnovationTowardSustainability

One Day Tour | Learn Do Share @ Bangkachao, Samutprakan province
The One Day Tour | Learn Day Share held by Office of International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering, on November 14, 2020, was the event that aimed to cultivate public consciousness and develop understanding about sustainable living. There were altogether 25 international students and Thai students and staffs who joined this event. The three activities of this event took place at Bangnamphueng Homestay, a community enterprise which hold on to the idea of sufficiency economy from King Rama IX. The first activity was the making of tie dye tote bag from natural color. This dye color is extracted from the coat of Nipa palm fruit which commonly grow around this area. People in Bangnamphueng community try to make use of Nipa palm by using the fruits to cook food, the leaves to create container, and the fruit coats to make dye color. The second activity was the cooking of Khanom Thuai, an easy cooking Thai dessert. This dessert requires a few ingredients and the recipe is simple enough for everyone to cook at home by themselves. The last activity of this event was a water treatment to improve the community area by using EM made from organic waste within the community.

On October 7, 2020, Chula Engineering led by Prof. Supot Teachavorasinskun, Dean of Engineering, together with board and faculty members welcomed the president and board of directors from Daikin Industries (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The purpose of this visit was to discuss on potential research collaboration opportunities.

Asst. Prof. Natt Leelawat has been invited to give a talk at the International Conference on Circular Economy and Tech Transfer for SMEs
On September 23, 2020, Assistant Professor Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., Assistant Dean (Communications and International Affairs) of Faculty of Engineering, Director of Risk and Disaster Management Program of Graduate School, Head of Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Group, and Lecturer of Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, was invited to give a talk at the International Conference on Circular Economy and Technology Transfer for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises at BITEC, Bangkok. It is an international conference organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), Thailand, and Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) jointly with the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). In Asst. Prof. Natt’s talk on “Business Continuity Management: Survival Strategy for SMEs”, he also introduced the Regional Resilience Enhancement through Establishment of Area-BCM at Industry Complexes in Thailand, which is a collaboration project between Chulalongkorn University and Nagoya Institute of Technology together with Thai and Japanese organizations and academic institutes. The project is also set its ultimate goal towards the Sustainable Development Goal #SDG8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, #SDG11

MOU signing between Chula Engineering and Huawei
On August 4, 2020, Chula Engineering together with Huawei Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding on research support and development of engineering innovation through 5G, AI, and Cloud technology. This collaboration aims to support research activities and develop engineering innovation of Chula Engineering which drives Thailand forward to digital transformation. Since Chula Engineering has been conducting R&D programs on the robotic system, automatic control system, and virtual reality system, through this five-year MOU, the integrated technology of 5G, Cloud, and AI from Huawei will help strengthen the potential and efficiency of engineering inventions to have a better remote control system and processor. Over the past year, Chula Engineering and Huawei Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. have been working together to exchange technological knowledge through seminars and workshops led by world-class technology and solutions experts who share their experience and expertise exclusively with faculty members, students as well as researchers.
