Staplect Team from Chulalongkorn University won the Winner Award from SCG Bangkok Business Challenge 2021

Chula Engineering congratulates the Staplect Team of Chulalongkorn University who won the Winner Award from the SCG Bangkok Business Challenge @ Sasin. The Staplect Team consists of Mr. Krit Uthaisang (Undergraduate student of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering Program, International School of Engineering, Chula Engineering), Mr. Chavaroj Thongpoch (Undergraduate student of Chulalongkorn Business School), Mr. Thanapat Pornsirianant (Undergraduate student of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering Program, Chula Engineering), and Ms. Napassorn Triwiratchakul (Undergraduate student of Chulalongkorn Business School); with the team advisor, Dr. Jing Tang (Lecturer of the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering Program, International School of Engineering, Chula Engineering).

The SCG Bangkok Business Challenge was organized by Sasin School of Management and SCG. It is Asia’s longest-running global student startup competition. The 2021 competition was organized during February 19-20, 2021. Its theme was “Growing Beyond Profit with Sustainable Innovation 2021”. There were 58 teams from 8 academic institutes across the country that joined this year’s competition.

As being the winner, the Staplect team will receive the USD 3,000 prize and will secure the place to join the global competition.

Chula Engineering faculty members and students received Best Paper Awards from ICA-SYMP 2021

On January 21, 2021, a research article “Government COVID-19 Responses and Subsequent Influences on NO2 Variation in Ayutthaya, Thailand” by Assistant Professor Akira Kodaka, Ph.D. (Keio Univesity, Japan), Assistant Professor Natt Leelawat, D.Eng. (Department of Industrial Engineering, Chula Engineering), Jing Tang, D.Eng. (International School of Engineering, Chula Engineering), Mr. Yasushi Onda (Keio University), and Professor Naohiko Kohtake, Ph.D. (Keio University); and a research article “Convex Optimization Approach to Multi-Objective Design of Two-Stage Compensators for Linear Systems” by Mr. Tanathorn Supithak (Undergraduate student of Department of Electrical Engineering, Chula Engineering), Ms. Nicha Wongyimyong (Alumnus of Department of Electrical Engineering, Chula Engineering), Professor Kou Yamada, Ph.D. (Gunma University, Japan), and Professor David Banjerdpongchai, Ph.D. (Department of Electrical Engineering, Chula Engineering) were selected to receive the Best Paper Awards from the 2nd International Symposium on Instrumentation, Control, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotics (ICA-SYMP 2021) organized by the Electrical Engineering/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunications and Information Technology (ECTI) Association, and technically co-sponsored by IEEE Thailand Section, Artificial Intelligence Association of Thailand (AIAT), and Thai Robotics Society (TRS) at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Bangkok during January 20-21, 2021

Asst. Prof. Natt Leelawat has been invited to give a talk at the International Conference on Circular Economy and Tech Transfer for SMEs

On September 23, 2020, Assistant Professor Natt Leelawat, D.Eng., Assistant Dean (Communications and International Affairs) of Faculty of Engineering, Director of Risk and Disaster Management Program of Graduate School, Head of Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Group, and Lecturer of Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, was invited to give a talk at the International Conference on Circular Economy and Technology Transfer for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises at BITEC, Bangkok. It is an international conference organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), Thailand, and Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) jointly with the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

In Asst. Prof. Natt’s talk on “Business Continuity Management: Survival Strategy for SMEs”, he also introduced the Regional Resilience Enhancement through Establishment of Area-BCM at Industry Complexes in Thailand, which is a collaboration project between Chulalongkorn University and Nagoya Institute of Technology together with Thai and Japanese organizations and academic institutes. The project is also set its ultimate goal towards the Sustainable Development Goal #SDG8 Decent Work and Economic Growth, #SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and #SDG13 Climate Action.

The 3rd Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting of SATREPS DREAM (Area-BCM) Project was held.

Press release: On July 29, 2020, at 13:00, the SATREP’s Regional Resilience Enhancement through Establishment of Area-BCM at Industry Complexes in Thailand (DREAM Project) organized the third Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting at Pathumwan Princess Hotel, Bangkok. The SATREPS DREAM Project is operated under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chakkaphan Sutthirat (Vice President for Research Affairs of Chulalongkorn University) as the Chair of JCC, Prof. Dr. Supot Teachavorasinskun (Dead of Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University) and Prof. Dr. Vipan Prachuabmoh (Dean of College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University) as the Project Directors, Prof. Dr. Watanabe Kenji (Nagoya Institute of Technology) as the Principal Investigator.

There were representatives from the related organizations including the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan Science and Technology (JST), Nagoya Institute of Technology (NIT), International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management (ICHARM), National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED), Kyoto Institute of Technology, The University of Tokyo, Chiba University, and Keio University from Japan; the Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), Department of Industrial Works (DIW), Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning (DPT), Ayutthaya Province, Hi-Tech Industrial Estate Co., Ltd., Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT), Royal Irrigation Department (RID), Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA), Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), Office of the National Water Resource (ONWR), etc.; as well as faculties and institutes of Chulalongkorn University including Faculty of Engineering, College of Populations Studies, Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Faculty of Architecture, and the Risk and Disaster Management (RDM) Program of Graduate School. The meeting is conducted in hybrid manners between on-site meeting for participants in Thailand and online Zoom Meeting for Japanese side and any organizations that are inconvenient to come to the venue. Also, the meeting was conducted in a new normal standard.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering; and the RDM Program, was a Master of Ceremony of the meeting. The meeting was started with an opening remark by Prof. Dr. Chakkapan Sutthirat (Vice President for Research Affairs of Chulalongkorn University). After that, Mr. Takeuchi Kazuo (Senior Representative of JICA) also gave an opening remark.

The next session started with the overall summary of the project by Prof. Watanabe Kenji, Project’s Principal Investigator. And it was followed by each item’s progress report. Asst. Prof. Dr. Anurak Sriariyawat (Department of Water Resources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University) and Dr. Miyamoto Mamoru (ICHARM) presented the progress report of Item 1 (Hazard Analysis). Next, Dr. Nakasu Tadashi (College of Population Studies, Chulalongkorn University) and Dr. Sutpratana Duangkaew (Mahidol University) presented the progress report of Item 0 (Community Survey).

After that, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tartat Mokkhamakkul (Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, Chulalongkorn Univesity) and Dr. Mitsumi Ryohei (NIED) presented the progress report of Item 2 (Business Impact Analysis). Lastly, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kodaka Akira (Keio University) and Dr. Jing Tang (International School of Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University) presented the progress report of Item 3 (Area-BCM).

Then, Assoc. Prof. Ino Eri (Nagoya Institute of Technology) provided an input summary and plan from both Thai and Japanese sides. Finally, Asst. Prof. Dr. Natt Leelawat, as a Project Manager, announced the stance for the project name, “DREAM Project”. DREAM is the project members-chosen abbreviation for “Disaster Resilient Economy by Area Management in ASEAN Members”.

The Q&A and suggestion session was opened to all participants. This session was run using both Thai and English languages.

After that, Mr. Miura Yoshiaki, JICA Project Coordinator, mentioned the draft minutes of meetings. There were many fruitful discussions and comments along with the meeting. Finally, Prof. Dr. Chakkapan Sutthirat gave a closing remark to close the 3rd JCC meeting.

The meeting was successful using the hybrid approach to overcome the limitation during the pandemic situation. The JCC members are looking forward to the involvement of all participated organizations.

Dept. Industrial Engineering, Chula Engineering, welcomed professor and students from Dept. Administration Engineering of Keio University

On October 25, 2019, the faculty members from the Department of Industrial Engineering welcomed the visit of Professor Hideo Suzuki and graduate students from the Department of Administration Engineering, Keio University, Japan. Associate Professor Dr. Paveena Chaovalitwongse, Head of Department of Industrial Engineering, Chula Engineering, was giving an opening speech to the visitors.

After that, the faculty members of the Department of Industrial Engineering were introducing the research centers and laboratories inside the department. The first laboratory that had been introduced was Advanced Manufacturing and Precision Engineering Research Center or AMPE. This research center was controlled by Associate Professor Dr. Somkiat Tangjitsitcharoen who did the research about in-process monitoring and optimization of manufacturing processes, micro-machining and micro-assembly, high precision cutting, and intelligent manufacturing system and machine tool.

Next, the Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems (DRMIS) Laboratory was introduced by Dr. Natt Leelawat, Head of Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Group of Chulalongkorn University, and his lab member. Dr. Natt also explained the SATREPS Area-BCM project which is one of the research fields of this research center.

Next, the group went to visit True Lab @ Chula Engineering and the Chulalongkorn University Museum. Based on this visiting by faculty members of Keio University, many opportunities of the two departments have been discussed.

On September 27, 2019, Associate Professor Dr. Tawatchai Charinpanitkul, Associate Dean (Academic Affairs) of Chula Engineering and the faculty members from the Department of Industrial Engineering welcomed the visit of professors from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan.

After that, there was a department tour. First, the Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems (DRMIS) Laboratory was introduced by Dr. Natt Leelawat, Head of Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Group of Chulalongkorn University. He and his lab members introduced the SATREPS Area-BCM Project.

Chula Engineering faculty members were invited to participate and give a presentation about ICT experience in Disaster Resilience Week at UN-ESCAP, Bangkok

Faculty members from Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, including Assistant Professor Dr. Chatpan Chintanapakdee (Department of Civil Engineering, and Director of Risk and Disaster Management Program), Dr. Natt Leelawat (Department of Industrial Engineering and Head of Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Group), and Dr. Jing Tang (International School of Engineering) were invited by Director of the United Nations Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (UN-APCICT/ESCAP) as the experts in the field to participate in the Expert Group Meeting on ICT for Disaster Risk Management, as part of the ESCAP’s Disaster Resilience Week at the United Nations Conference Centre Bangkok during August 26-27, 2019.

Dr. Natt Leelawat was invited as the representative of Thailand to give a presentation in the Session 6: National experiences on ICT for DRM and sharing best practices. He gave a talk on “ICT4DRM: Experience from Thailand”. He summarized the ICT experience from the academic institute perspective including the related course, “Disaster Management and Technology” of Department of Industrial Engineering, Chulalongkorn University; researches of the Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems Research Group (DRMIS) of Chula Engineering; the Risk and Disaster Management Program of Graduate School; SATREPS Project-Regional Resilience Enhancement through Establishment of Area-BCM at Industry Complexes in Thailand; and other related studies.
