Chulalongkorn University’s Engineering Faculty is rebranding itself as “Chula Engineering” to produce innovative engineers with qualifications required in local and international labour markets.
Under the motto “Foundation towards Innovation”, the faculty is working to produce “innovative engineers” who can respond to changes and are ready for competition in the world market, Dean Bundhit Eua-arporn said last week.
The faculty had built a solid foundation over the past century so it had produced quality engineers, many of whom went on to become leaders of many organisations locally and internationally.
It had also acted as a knowledge source for the country. Such a strong foundation would help the faculty spawn innovations for society.
The faculty has initiated the Chula Engineering Ambassador contest with financial and knowledge support from various sponsors, including the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Siam Cement Group, Advanced Info Service and Pruksa Real Estate.
“Under this project, our students will be improved in many ways besides from engineering knowledge, which will benefit them when doing activities that help improve society and the country. They will be a role model for younger students,” Bundhit said.
The project runs from May 1 this year to September 30 next year. Third-year engineering students will be invited to submit applications and the 30 or so most eligible ones will be selected after introducing themselves to judges.
They will be trained and attend workshops by leading agencies. They will go on site visits to learn about industry, prepare professional presentations, study the characteristics of leaders and learn about innovation and corporate social responsibility.
Twelve finalists will have the opportunity to join a study tour or intern at leading organisations in other countries and enjoy the Coffee Talk by Top Leaders activity.
Only one man and one woman will be selected as the ambassadors.
